As the community continues to grapple with the safety issues on Tidewater Trail, recent conversations with Lee Hill District Supervisor Lori Hayes have brought some important updates and potential solutions to light.

Upcoming Improvements:
In an effort to enhance pedestrian safety, advance warning lights will be installed at key intersections along Tidewater Trail in the coming weeks. These lights are designed to alert drivers to the presence of pedestrians. However, it is crucial that pedestrians activate these lights before crossing to ensure their effectiveness. Despite these efforts, we continue to witness jaywalking, including many adults with children, which remains a significant concern.

Traffic Light at Glendas Way:
One of the most contentious issues has been the need for a traffic light at the intersection of Glendas Way and Tidewater Trail. While the push for this traffic light continues, it’s important to recognize that this is not to undermine the broader traffic issues along Tidewater Trail, stretching from Landsdowne Road to Benchmark. As new homes are approved for construction, traffic congestion is expected to worsen, extending down to the Rt 2 & 17 area. Addressing these broader issues is essential for the long-term safety and efficiency of our roadways.

Community Involvement:
To make a significant impact, community involvement is crucial. We are planning a town hall meeting in July, following the completion of a current traffic analysis. This meeting will provide a platform for residents to voice their concerns and discuss potential solutions with representatives from the sheriff’s office, VDOT, and the transportation department.

In addition to the town hall, we need community members to actively participate in the Board of Supervisors meetings. These meetings are a vital opportunity to speak up about our concerns and push for necessary changes. The next meeting is scheduled for June 11th. If you would like to attend today’s meeting or watch it live, here are the details:

– Date and Time: TONIGHT, May 28, 2024, at 5:00 PM
– Location: Holbert Building, 9104 Courthouse Road
– Agenda: http://ow.ly/7IJ450OARyx
– Watch Live: http://ow.ly/9mAN50OARyw

The participation and voices of our community members are essential to making our roads safer for everyone. By attending these meetings and the upcoming town hall, we can collectively push for the necessary improvements to Tidewater Trail.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Together, we can work towards a safer community.
