Spotsylvania County, Virginia – Authorities from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office have pressed charges against the father of a middle school student who allegedly brought a loaded firearm to a Fredericksburg school last month. The accused individual, Josette Rodriquez, 37 years old and a resident of Spotsylvania, has been charged with the offense of recklessly leaving a loaded and unsecured firearm, thereby putting the life or well-being of a child under the age of 14 in danger.

According to reports, Rodriquez’s child was discovered in possession of a .45 caliber gun, which was loaded, inside their backpack at Chancellor Middle School on May 19. Another student had informed a teacher about witnessing the gun in the possession of Rodriquez’s child. The teacher promptly alerted the school administration, and it is important to note that the gun was never exhibited in a manner that threatened any other students or staff members at the school.
The sheriff’s office also mentioned that the student involved will be facing charges in relation to this incident. Sheriff Roger Harris emphasized the significance of responsibly storing and securing firearms in order to prevent curious
children from being harmed, to hinder individuals in crisis from using family firearms for self-inflicted harm, and to prevent theft and misuse of firearms by unauthorized individuals. This reminder was conveyed through a press release issued by the sheriff’s office.
