Rocktoberfest, held at UMW’s Jefferson Square on Friday, Oct. 6, was filled with good vibes and great music. Popular local band Center Point kicked off the performance with classic anthems of the last six decades, soon followed by another incredible musical experience from Cartwheel, captivating the audience with unique blends of different genres.
Rocktoberfest is an event on UMW’s campus that students look forward to every year. With cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and shorter days, the University, along with the UMW Class Council, welcomed bands Center Point and Cartwheel to Jefferson Square on Friday, Oct. 6. Students were buzzing with excitement throughout the week leading up to the event, eager to enjoy food, drinks, and a night of good vibes. Rocktoberfest was a success and a memorable experience for all who attended.
Center Point, a well-known local band from Northern Virginia, opened the show with classic and modern rock songs, with everyone singing and dancing along. Their sound filled the square, captivating the audience with their unique twist on the hits of the last six decades. The crowd doubled as the night continued, with everyone jamming to the incredible performance.
The second band, Cartwheel, continued the energy with their selection of different genres and sounds, dazzling the audience with their unique blend. Everything from classic rock to modern pop filled the air as they wowed the crowd and left them wanting more.
Food Line and Beer Garden
The crowd at the event was huge, and the food line was growing. Last year’s famous pork sandwiches and baked beans were still as delicious as ever, drawing in students to fill their plates. On the other side of the event was the beer garden, which was unsurprisingly just as popular as the food line. Despite the lack of variety of alcohol, people still flocked to the garden for a chance to let loose.
Security was on hand to ensure that only those 21 and over were allowed, but overall, the atmosphere was one of joy and excitement. By the night’s end, it was clear that the Rocktober Festival had succeeded.
The beer garden was filled with people playing cornhole and enjoying various drinks. Offering more game choices further enhanced the atmosphere, bringing in more attendees to the event. Friends, family, and UMW community members enjoyed the performances, taking photos, singing, and tapping their feet to the music. With the perfect setting for picture taking and a relaxed atmosphere, it was an evening to remember.
Junior linguistics major Emma Sanford summed it up best, “The atmosphere is fantastic. This event allows us to socialize and relax and enjoy the performance.” Senior marketing major Mohammed Hassan added, “It’s been a stressful week, but attending the event and simply enjoying myself was much needed.” Rocktoberfest was an extraordinary event that gave UMW community members a unique opportunity to take a break from their studies and revel in the season’s joys.
It was truly a success, and is an event not to be missed next year.
As a whole, Rocktoberfest was an incredible event that all UMW students enjoyed. Starting with Center Point, followed by Cartwheel, the two bands captivated the audience who lived in the moment and delivered a fantastic atmosphere throughout Jefferson Square. From cheerful tunes to happy vibes, the night ended with a success story for all who came, creating memories that will last well beyond October.
