Starting this Wednesday, those traveling on Route 1 and Route 3 in Fredericksburg may experience short overnight disruptions and a momentarily uneven road due to ongoing resurfacing works and lane marking updates.
This project kicks off on the night of Wednesday, Sept. 27, and is anticipated to last around four weeks. The resurfacing will impact the following stretches of Route 1 and Route 3:
– The northbound side of Route 1 from Idlewild Boulevard to Cowan Boulevard.
– Eastward on Route 3 (Plank Road) from Altoona Drive to Huntington Hills Lane.
– Both directions of Route 3 (Plank Road) from Huntington Hills Lane to William Street.
– Both directions of Route 3 (Blue and Gray Parkway) from William Street to Route 1 Business (Lafayette Boulevard).
– The entrance and exit ramps at the Route 1 and Route 3 junction.
As these road segments undergo milling, travelers might face uneven surfaces temporarily until the fresh asphalt is laid. They might also see provisional lane signs until the definitive markings are applied.
To minimize disruptions, lane closures are planned:
– For Route 1 and Route 3 from Sunday to Thursday nights, concluding early Friday mornings, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
– There will be nighttime closures of the ramps at the Route 1 and Route 3 interchange once resurfacing commences there. Detours will be indicated on those nights.
The project spans about 2 miles on Route 1 and Route 3, addressing roughly 5 lane miles, with an expected budget of $1.3 million. Allan Myers, Inc. is the designated contractor.
To keep travelers informed, notification boards will be set up along Routes 1 and 3.
**Traveler’s Note:**
The work is weather-dependent.
