**VIRGINIA** — Virginia’s Food Lion grocery store chain has issued a recall on certain mixed vegetable and sweet corn products due to potential listeria exposure, as announced by the store.
The products in question include the 16-ounce Food Lion Mixed Vegetables and the 16-ounce Food Lion Super Sweet Cut Corn.
Details reveal that the mixed vegetables sold between Jan. 19, 2023, and Aug. 19, 2023, are under the recall, as are the sweet corn items sold from Nov. 7, 2022, through Aug. 19, 2023. The specific products can be identified by the barcodes “0003582600509” and “0003582607985.”
Food Lion encourages customers who have purchased these items to return them to any of their outlets for a full refund, amounting to twice the product’s cost, reflecting the store’s “double your money back” policy on its merchandise.
While most healthy individuals who consume food with listeria might experience mild or no symptoms, potential effects can include fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Furthermore, listeria can lead to complications such as miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant women.
The population at higher risk includes infants, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immunity. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that listeriosis affects approximately 1,600 individuals yearly, with about 260 resulting in fatalities.
Given the potential risks, Food Lion strongly advises customers against consuming any potentially contaminated items.
For a comprehensive understanding of Listeria, individuals can refer to the Centers for Disease Control website.
