Remembering Ellie Blaine: The Inspiring Story Behind 'Ellie's Elves'

Ellie's Elves is a non-profit organization created by Joni Nast and Elizabeth Nast in memory of Ellie Blaine, a two-year-old diagnosed with Pineoblastoma brain cancer. More than 3,400 Elves work together to bring joy to those suffering from cancer and families in need, tackling projects both big and small to make a positive difference in their lives.

Ellie's Elves is a non-profit organization that provides support to cancer patients and their families, as well as any family in crisis. It was founded by Joni Kanazawa in 2014 in honor of Ellie Blaine, who at the age of two was diagnosed with Pineoblastoma, a rare brain cancer. Blaine passed away on December 22, 2013. On the anniversary of her death, more than 1,500 people gathered to celebrate Ellie’s life with candles lighting the pathway ahead and individuals around the world sending their support from Australia, Costa Rica, and Mexico. One such example was f young boy diagnosed with cancer who only had a short time to live. Joni brought together the elves to create Whoville, his favorite part of the How The Grinch Stole Christmas movie, in his front yard. His face lit up with joy when he saw this amazing gesture and it didn't end there. Santa Claus then made an appearance to share this special moment with him and the owner of a Lamborghini arrived to take him for a ride in his dream car. This is the power of Ellie's Elves to bring people together to spread joy during tough times. This lovely story of generosity and kindness shines a light on a difficult situation. After the young girl's father passed away from cancer, her mother contacted Joni seeking guidance for purchasing a basketball hoop. Much to her surprise, Joni asked for one to be donated instead. This generous act of kindness was rewarded as a basketball hoop was delivered directly to the home on Mother's Day. The mother and daughter arrived home from the basketball developmental league to find this special gift in the front yard, making it an incredibly meaningful day. Through Ellie's Elves, a loving and supportive community showed their care and compassion to this family in a time of need. As they celebrated together, it was evident that this special gesture would be remembered for a lifetime.
