Renee’s Crêpes & Cakes is a charming and friendly spot in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where you can enjoy a wide variety of delicious crêpes and homemade cakes. Since opening in 2015, this family-run restaurant has become a favorite for locals and visitors looking for tasty meals made with fresh ingredients and a personal touch.

Located at 2020 Augustine Avenue in Fredericksburg, Renee’s Crêpes & Cakes sits just one door away from The Parthenon, a well-known Greek restaurant that has been part of the community since the 1980s. Renee Psaras, the owner, grew up in this family restaurant environment.

Her parents, Sophia and Manny Psaras, ran The Parthenon for many years, and Renee started helping out there as a child. After working in other fields and spending time living in Greece, Renee returned to Fredericksburg to open her own place, blending her Greek heritage with the French tradition of crêpes.

Fresh and Flavorful Crêpes for Every Taste

At Renee’s, the crêpes are made fresh to order using flour imported from Europe to ensure authentic taste and texture. The menu offers a great mix of sweet and savory crêpes, with many featuring Greek-inspired flavors. Some of the popular dishes include the Special Savory Crepe ($13.99), Breakfast Crepe ($8.50), Nutella Berry Bonanza ($10.99), Chicken Berry Crepe ($8.95), Reese’s Peanut Butter Crepe ($9.95), Cherry Pie Crepe ($8.95), Apple Pecan Pie Crepe ($11.99), and Chicken Cordon Bleu Crepe ($7.95).

Besides crêpes, Renee’s also serves homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, and a selection of Greek sodas and desserts, making it a great place for any meal of the day.

A Cozy Place with Friendly Service

The atmosphere at Renee’s Crêpes & Cakes is relaxed and welcoming. The small café feels cozy and inviting, with friendly staff who treat customers like family. Many visitors appreciate the quick service and the warm environment, which makes it easy to enjoy a casual meal or a sweet treat. The restaurant also offers catering services, where Renee can create custom cheesecakes, cake bites, and other dessert options for special occasions.

Overcoming Challenges and Growing Stronger

Like many small businesses, Renee’s faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the University of Mary Washington and local offices shut down, and travel slowed, the restaurant shifted to carryout, delivery, and curbside service to keep serving customers.

Renee and her husband Frankie received support through local grants and loans, including a PPP loan and a City of Fredericksburg grant, which helped them stay afloat until they could reopen for dine-in service with social distancing. Thanks to this support and the return of students and visitors, the business is now thriving again.
